Claimed Pasts, in collaboration with the Centre for Gender and Equality, invites you to a free and open lecture by Ketil Slagstad based on his book "Standardizing Sex: A History of Trans Medicine" (2025).

About the Speaker
Ketil Slagstad has been a research associate at the Institute for the History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine at Charité since 2022. His research focuses on the development and negotiation of medical knowledge between experts, patients, and activists in the history of trans* medicine and the AIDS epidemic. He is particularly interested in the role of the welfare state in regulating medical practices, but also in how the welfare state context has enabled certain socio-medical ways of thinking and practices.

About the Book
"Standardizing Sex: A History of Trans Medicine" was published by the University of Chicago Press in 2025. The book analyzes the emergence of trans* medicine in Scandinavia from the 1920s onwards, based on medical records, public and private archives, media sources, and oral history interviews.

- Light refreshments (coffee and fruit) will be served.
