Democracy faces significant challenges in today's society, including influence campaigns, conspiracy theories, artificial intelligence, fake news, polarization, and digital threats. This conference brings together local and regional authorities, youth, volunteers, and experts to discuss how municipalities can strengthen their local democracy and build resilience against these threats.

Topics to be discussed include how we can create a safe digital democracy, strengthen youth democratic engagement, and promote dialogue with citizens.
The conference format will include introductions from European political leaders, presentations from experts, including analyses and findings from Nordic Safe Cities and others on digital threats and challenges, as well as panel discussions. We will also hear the youth perspective.

Insights from Safe Digital City

Nordic Safe Cities will showcase insights and results from the 'Safe Digital City' program, where 10 Nordic cities are working to create new insights about threats to local digital democracy and online environments, as well as develop new initiatives that strengthen the city's ability to create a safe and secure online democracy.

The purpose of the conference is to exchange experiences and learning between actors from Ukraine, Germany, Norway, and other European countries. Representatives from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will help place the topic in a broader European context.

The conference will be held in English.
